Chapter Thirteen
Cassidy was grateful she was on a late call to set again. She was loathe to even open her eyes. She was warm and snug in Aiden’s bed, sprawled across Aiden’s chest. Her head was tucked under Aiden’s chin, and her leg was spread possessively over Aiden’s thighs, pinning her down. She could feel Aiden’s chest rise and fall as she slept on, blissfully unaware. Cassidy was now wide-awake. Her eyes traced over Aiden’s body that she had spent the night feasting on. She moved her hand a little to rest it over Aiden’s heart, loving the strong beat under her palm. Cassidy couldn’t ever remember waking up in this position before. It was intimate. One of Aiden’s arms was holding her tight, keeping her close. Cassidy hadn’t expected that from her previous lovers; she’d been more interested in leaving and moving on. She sighed and snuggled into the crook of Aiden’s neck. This was perfect.
Aiden had been a very innovative lover with an attention to detail that Cassidy had been thrilled by. She’d loved that Aiden had been equally as comfortable being fucked as she was being touched more softly and slowly. Cassidy spied the already darkening bruise she’d inadvertently left when she’d bitten Aiden’s shoulder to keep her cries from ringing out through the neighborhood. Aiden’s fingers deep inside her had made her almost embarrassed by how wet she’d become, and Aiden’s kisses had left her breathless in so many ways.
From being this close to Aiden’s nakedness, Cassidy could see faint scars on Aiden’s arm. There was also something that looked suspiciously like a cigarette burn. Cassidy knew Aiden didn’t smoke. Cassidy had played a police officer once in a TV show and had researched the role with a Special Victims Unit. She knew abuse when she saw it. Her heart bled for what Aiden had had to go through to become who she was today. She tightened her hold just a little more.
Aiden stirred finally. “Are you late for work?” she asked, rubbing at her eyes.
“No, I’m on a late start today so I can lounge in bed with this gorgeous woman I spent the night with.”
Aiden wrapped her arms around Cassidy and hugged her close. “Good. I’d hate to have to rush this morning. I’m feeling decidedly lazy after such a busy night.”
Cassidy touched the scarring on Aiden’s bicep. The burn was high enough to be hidden by a shirtsleeve. “What happened here?”
“A foster parent got a little careless with her cigarettes one night after too many beers. She thought it would be funny to brand all the kids in her care. It worked out for me. I got sent to a new foster family where I ended up being adopted by them.” Aiden rested her hand over Cassidy’s. “It’s old now, like many of the other scars you’ll see.”
“I’m sorry, Aiden.”
“The past is the past, Cassidy. And it led me to you so it was worth it in the end.”
“I don’t like the thought of you being hurt.
